Jack was born in Lander August 29, 1925 the son of John and Annie Jane (Jean) Brodie. He attended schools in Lander and graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School. Upon graduation, he served in the Navy during World War II on a cargo ship and aircraft carrier in the South Pacific.
While home on leave, he met the love of his life and wife of 66 years, Irene Gehrt.
After an honorable discharge, he returned to Lander and worked for several years at Dallas Dome Oil Field. During this time he started his life business as a cattle rancher, cowboy and livestock broker. In 1959, he and Irene purchased the Shady Dell Ranch in Sinks Canyon. In 1978, they purchased the Bybee Ranch on North 2nd Street where he continued to run cattle and raise hay to the present. As a livestock broker, his word and handshake were known to be as good as any written contract.
He was a founding member of the Lander Cutter Racing Assoc. and the Lander Old Timers Rodeo Assoc. He won the Wyoming Championship and represented Wyoming at the World Championship Cutter and Chariot Races meet in Pocatello, Idaho in March of 1966.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Club, the One Shot Antelope Club, and the Wyoming Stockgrowers Assoc.
For 25 years, Jack and Irene provided the luncheon on Friday for the One Shot Team members at their ranch in Sinks Canyon. He was a member of the Wyoming One Shot team in 1977. Jack was a guide for the One Shot and through the years, he and Irene made many lifelong friends. They were privileged to attend the Apollo XVII launching at Cape Canaveral Florida on Dec 7, 1972 after being invited by the One Shot astronaut's team.
Jack loved watching and helping his children, grandchildren, and great grand children with their rodeo, school sports and activities. He raised colts and gave one to each of his grandchildren. He shared his passion for fishing, hunting and enjoying life with all his family.
He is survived by his wife, Irene and five children, Diana Brodie (Mel Dahl), Chuck (Anel) Brodie, Katie (Brad) Meredith, Mike Brodie (Launa Christie), and Jock (Susan) Brodie; eight grandchildren, Sonya and Tommy Heil, Amanda and Jessica Brodie, Cain and Heather Brodie, Jake and Sam Brodie and two great-grandchildren Kayden and Kolby Heil.
